The Dutch Do-It-Yourself Market is now suffering very hard from the crisis.
This year 2013, the number of removals has declined and there is hardly new builded homes completed.
This sector is suffering from end 2012 till now, a loss of hundred million of euros.
Handymen stay away and that pinches. You see that many DIY stores now turn their attention to the sale of more decorative and lifestyle-type products and items for the garden.
Many Dutch Researchers believes that the problem still persists here; that the Consumer Confidence is historically low. There are significant cuts overhead going on and unfortunately more to come. It is unclear how to when these measures will remain. The Dutch People are uncertain about the labor market and the housing market. It seems in any case unlikely, that the housing market will recover in the short term. The expectation is that the consumer expense will continue to decline. And thus will the consumers Do It Yourself this year further to fall.
Hopefully the 2014 will be better for this sector.
